Three people, no investors, no advertising identifier

A transit app is a public good that happens to be a piece of software, and it should not be funded by selling where you went.

A map and a phone side by side on a table

About

Rooky has been three people since 2021. One thousand two hundred and forty routes, updated weekly, built from operator timetables and about four thousand user corrections.

There is no analytics SDK and no advertising identifier in the app. Location is used on the device and never transmitted. This costs us the ability to know which features are used, and we have decided repeatedly that it is worth it.

The free tier is not a trial. Routes, timetables and fares are free permanently, because an app that tells you how to get home should not have a paywall between you and the bus.

It works in Portland where nothing else does. The timetable is already on the phone.
Reported a wrong fare on Tuesday, in the app the following Monday.
Nine dollars a year for students with no verification service. Thank you.
Thirty-eight megabytes is a lot on an old phone. Worth it.
